The 2024 Shanghai-Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Roundtable will be held in Hong Kong: Join hands for a better future

On 27 April, the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce jointly held the 2024 Shanghai-Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Roundtable with the theme of "Joining Hands for a Better Future" in Hong Kong. Representatives from the business community of Shanghai and Hong Kong will further promote economic and trade exchanges and project docking between enterprises in Shanghai and Hong Kong around technological innovation, the development of the financial services industry, and the integration of industrial and supply chains. Chen Tong, member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, head of the United Front Work Department, and president of the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, attended the roundtable and delivered a speech.

The meeting pointed out that Shanghai and Hong Kong share the same cultural nourishment, common emotional identity, common ideals and vision, deep historical ties, and close economic and trade ties. In the new era and new journey, Shanghai and Hong Kong are both "bridgehead" cities connecting the domestic and international markets, sharing important national missions and tasks, with strong complementarity, outstanding superposition effect, and bright development prospects, creating a broad space for exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong entrepreneurs. At present, Shanghai is focusing on the important mission of building the "Five Centers" in accordance with the central government's deployment, accelerating the construction of a socialist modern international metropolis with world influence, the business environment continues to be optimized, and development opportunities are constantly emerging.

The meeting emphasized that the mechanism of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Roundtable has been running smoothly and has achieved results, demonstrating the cultural affinity, economic integration and development between Shanghai and Hong Kong. It is hoped that the roundtable will become a working mechanism and platform for entrepreneurs from Shanghai and Hong Kong to exchange, cooperate and develop together. It is hoped that the business people of Shanghai and Hong Kong will carry forward the outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, give full play to their unique advantages, and unswervingly safeguard and promote Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. I hope that friends from all walks of life in Hong Kong will continue to care about and support the development of Shanghai and jointly interpret a more wonderful "Tale of Two Cities".

Cai Guanshen, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Xinhua Group, Wang Xiaohan, Deputy Director of the United Front Work Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Chairman (Vice President) of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce (General Chamber of Commerce), and Yau Yinghua, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, delivered speeches respectively. Yao Zuhui, Vice President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Shanghai-Hong Kong United Holdings Limited, presided over the meeting.

Mr. Pang Wenjun, Vice President of the Office of the Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government for the Introduction of Strategic Enterprises, Mr. Yau Dakan, Member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR, Mr. Hou Jijun, Mayor of Changning District, Shanghai, and Mr. Li Lei, Deputy Mayor of Fengxian District, respectively introduced the regional business environment and cooperation opportunities.

Wang Yu, Chairman of Spring Airlines Co., Ltd., Yu Huijiao, Chairman of YTO Express Co., Ltd., Yu Ruifen, President of Shanghai Laiyifen Co., Ltd., Chairman of Oriental Wealth Information Co., Ltd., Tan Limin, Chairman of Shanghai Xijing Technology Co., Ltd., Yan Feng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Guotai Junan International Holdings Co., Ltd., Guan Baihao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CASH Investment Group Co., Ltd., Eight representatives of entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Hong Kong, including Winnie Cheung, Senior Partner of KPMG China Hong Kong, exchanged views on the characteristics and advantages of Shanghai and Hong Kong, focusing on the needs of cooperation and investment experience.

About 120 people attended the meeting, including relevant persons in charge of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government and representatives of Shanghai and Hong Kong enterprises.

At the roundtable, the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce jointly signed the "Cross-border Financial Strategic Cooperation Agreement" with four financial institutions, namely Bank of China (Hong Kong), Bank of Communications International, SPDB International and CEB International, to further expand the service circle of the "government-bank-enterprise" cooperation mechanism. The three parties will establish a coordination and exchange mechanism, focusing on cooperation in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, advanced manufacturing, green and low-carbon, and digital economy, so as to serve enterprises in Shanghai and Hong Kong to jointly "go global". A memorandum of understanding was signed by 14 Shanghai and Hong Kong enterprises in the fields of artificial intelligence, biomedicine, digital economy, low-altitude economy, and food trade.

In 2023, in order to further deepen the cooperation and exchanges between the business communities of Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce jointly held the first "Shanghai-Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Roundtable" in Shanghai and signed a memorandum of friendship and cooperation. Over the past year, the two sides have actively played their role as a bridge and link, and have made new contributions to deepening mutual trust, cooperation, cooperation and exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong and promoting the high-quality development of enterprises in the two places through various forms such as group visits, economic and trade cooperation, information exchange and resource sharing.
